Polymetallic deposit, consisting of VMS-type stratabound lead-zinc-silver-copper ore bodies, hosted in Late Carboniferous volcaniclastic basaltic-andesitic rocks, vein-type lead-zinc-silver and veinlet-disseminated molybdenum-copper ore bodies, which are related to a Himalayan concealed granite porphyry stock, and minor skarn type molybdenum-rich ore bodies at depth.
Mining in this area dates back to the 14th century.
Note:
Not to be confused with the Laochang ore field in the Gejiu mining district.
