Nepheline syenite. The Princess Sodalite quarry has a century-long history and is still being worked at present. The quarry itself is currently closed to the public due to safety concerns.
The Princess sodalite quarry is located 300 feet north of the East road on lot 25, concession XIV, Dungannon township. The property was opened up about 1906, and 130 tons of sodalite rock was shipped to England for use as a decorative stone.
"In 1901 the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall (later King Georg V and Queen Mary) were presented with a piece of this sodalite; they found it so attractive that some was quarried for Marlborough House in London." (Grice, 1989)
