The deposit was discovered in 1925. Shaft and tenches were dug by the 1930s in an altered ultramafic rock. The rutile was as dark red crystals disseminated in chlorite. Also notable was the occurrence of large magnetite octahedra in schist and limonite pseudomorphs after pyrite cubes.
