Extinct volcano. More than half of it lies in Uganda. Elgon is the 4th highest mountain in East Africa rising to 4245 m with the upper slopes being heavily glaciated (Searle 1952). The diameter is about 90 km. Total area covered by volcanic rocks is in excess of 3000 mΒ².
