Enstatite Chondrite, low-Iron [EL6:S2]
Found, 1910; 1.83 kg

The coordinates are for the Bythfield Township, the exact location of the find is unknown. The coordinates in the meteorite database are also incorrect and will land you in Gratton Township. Note the incorrect spelling of the meteorite.

The Blithfield meteorite is unusual in that it contains troilite-rich clasts (~35 vol.%) embedded in an Fe,Ni-rich matrix (~65 vol.%) with metal nodules nearly 2 cm in diameter. Rubin (1997) has argued that Blithfield and other Enstatite breccias experienced very high shock levels which were largely erased by metamorphism only to be followed by a later, milder S2 impact. Indeed, it has been difficult to determine the relative importance of internal heating and impact heating in the history of several brecciated EL enstatite chondrites.
