Locality type:

A Mr Allen pegged several leases on the field, this particular one in 1911, which bears his name. Cummings (surname) is also noted as co-owner. Allen is reported to have crushed 51 tonnes from the show in 1914. GML 1979. In this year there were two shafts on the lease to 240 and 113 feet.

About 1 kilometre south of the Bullfinch-Evanston and Windarling mine haul road intersection, a track heads north-west. After 500 metres a small group of workings is encountered bordering the north side of the track. This track continues west, then south-west for 10 kilometres to the Mt Jackson homestead ruins.

In 1911, there were 4 leases here, but only GML 1979 was being worked. Described as being on a good strong outcrop of quartz, 2 feet 6 inches wide on average, north-south striking, and dipping shallowly to the east. The lease had a shaft to 15 feet deep. The first two years of operations achieved 19 dwt, however the third year of 1914, values had decreased significantly.

Gold was formed at Allen's Find by the intersection of two solution flows with a different composition, temperature and pressure. At the intersections the reefs have expanded, with either the solution flow slowing with deposition, or gold as a reaction to the meeting of the two flows.

The lode is found in decomposed acid igneous rock. The country rock is soft greenish white kaolin, traversed by veinlets of quartz. The main reef is 2 to 5 feet wide of uniform stone, striking north north-west and dipping 28 degrees east. A couple of cross reefs are found in the shaft with gold enrichment at the intersections.

A seam of dark 'pug' (clay?) less than 1 inch thick follows the footwall of the reef. The ore had a streaky appearance of laminated hematite, quartz and jasper. At the bottom of the shaft was a cross reef/main reef intersection, the quartz brecciated, with cemented black opaque quartz, stained with either hematite or manganese.
