Carbonate-hosted base metal deposit.

Lens-shaped body (1200X600X30 m) located at the intersection of a shear zone and a later normal fault.

Replacement of Lower Cambrian limestones due to hydrothermal fluids (200°C, reducing conditions, neutral to slightly acid pH) circulating along a fault zone during Hercynian orogeny.

Remobilization of preexisting sulfides (stratabound Pb-Zn occurrences) in Cambrian limestones (abiogenic reduction of anhydrite or gypsum equilibrated with Cambrian marine waters, by methane or organic matter during late stage diagenesis).

Important hydrothermal alteration : sericitization of shales, ankeritization of limestones, silicifacation of ankerites (jasperoids) and chloritization.

Anhydrite and gypsum, replaced by calcite, are present in Vegadeo formation (limestones and dolostones situated above Rubiales orebody).
