Located 170 km south west of Newman. Stratabound sedimentary deposit

Identified from numerous exploration drillholes. The area was first explored from 1976 by Amoco, then the 1990's by Renison Goldfields Consolidated Limited, Oldcity Nominees Pty Ltd from 2000, and from 2005 by Abra Mining Limited. The Abra deposit was discovered in 1981. Base metal mineralization shows lead, silver, copper and gold. The Genie prospect is 3.5 kilometres east of Abra, Hyperion prospect 2 kilometres west of Abra, Bazaar prospect south of Abra, Rhea prospect north-east, and Tethy's south of Genie. All the mineralization is covered by barren sediment.

The deposits are located in the middle Proterozoic aged Jillawarra Sub-Basin, 65 kilometres long by 10 kilometres wide, the centre dominated by the Coolina Anticline. Abra is found on the southern limb of the anticline. The host stratigraphy is the Jillawarra Formation of siltstone with minor sandstone, Kiangi Creek Formation of siltstone, and the Irregully Formation of siltstone and dolomite. Base metal mineralization occurs in the upper part of the Irregully Formation.

Mineralization at Abra is disseminated and veins hosting galena, chalcopyrite and sphalerite, up to 300 metres thick, 1000 metres east-west, and 800 metres north-south. It is in a core of an intense alteration system comprising upper stratabound alteration mineralization, overlying a complex hydrothermal breccia stockwork.

In the Stratabound Domain at the top there is an upper red banded zone of red banded hematite with sub-ordinate magnetite-barite-carbonate-silica-pyrite-galena. Then a lower black banded zone of banded grey hematite/magnetite-silica-carbonate-chlorite-barite-galena-chalcopyrite-pyrite. In the Stockwork Domain there is pervasive chlorite/siderite alteration of laminated sediments, overprinted by intense hydrothermal breccia, grading to upright laminated veins and zones of quartz-hematite-chalcopyrite-gold-pyrite-magnetite-dolomite.

The deposit occurs in banded massive and brecciated silica-barite-hematite-magnetite-dolomite sequence, underlying chlorite altered hydrothermal breccia. The top of the deposit is 250 metres below the surface. The mineral sequence starts from the top of a Red Banded Zone of silica-barite-jaspillite-hematite-magnetite-dolomite; Dolomite Banded Zone of dolomite-silica-magnetite; Black Banded Zone of silica-magnetite-hematite-dolomite; a Chlorite Alteration-Breccia Stringer Zone; and Footwall Laminated Sediments.
