The Rozália mine was initially explored (already in the 17th century) and mined (since 1951) from the epithermal copper-rich Rozália vein, which is ranked as a Štiavnica type vein and is developed on a resurgent horst fault in andesite and quartz-diorite porphyry. This vein is the type locality of hodrušite.
Mining at the Rozália vein ceased in 1990. Later, during the 1990-1991 period, accumulations of stockwork/disseminated base-metal mineralization were mined at the hanging wall of the Rozália vein. This mineralization is developed along an irregular network of fractures in the apical parts of a granodiorite intrusion and as replacement bodies in remnants of basement rocks (crystalline schists and marly limestones).
In 1988, a system of subhorizontal epithermal gold and base-metal veins of the intermediate-sulphidation type (also called a Svetozár stockwork) was discovered by drilling exploration in the deepest levels of the Rozália mine. This mineralization is developed in andesites, is related to the caldera collapse stage and is segmented by the younger Rozália vein and related tectonic structures as well as by the sills of the quartz-diorite porphyry. It was mined from 1992 to the present day (2015). Overall ore production during the 1992-2012 period was more than 800,000 tons, with the average gold content about 8 grams per ton. All samples of macroscopic gold from the Rozália mine originate from this type of mineralization.
The mineralogy and geology were recently described in detail by Kubač et al. (2018).

Geochronology
Mineralization age: Miocene : 12.8 ± 0.6 Ma to 10.1 MaImportant note: This table is based only on rock and mineral ages recorded on mindat.org for this locality and is not necessarily a complete representation of the geochronology, but does give an indication of possible mineralization events relevant to this locality. As more age information is added this table may expand in the future. A break in the table simply indicates a lack of data entered here, not necessarily a break in the geologic sequence. Grey background entries are from different, related, localities.
