Quarrying started late 1800's, but it wasn't before 1897 that the Ankerske Marmorforretning from Fauske started large scale production.
Large blocks were cut out and shipped by boat to Fauske for further processing.
However, the marble was too coarse-grained and weathered easily, and in 1930 the quarry was abandoned.
In 1997 an effort to exploit the marble for industrial purposes was halted due to environmental concerns.
