Desert Brown is a marketing term for granite belonging to the Esperance Supersuite of the Nornalup Zone aged 1150 Ma. The north-east trending granite is largely covered by a Cenozoic sandplain, but outcrops in various areas as domes and rocky hills.

The site is 14 kilometres east north-east of Esperance, bordering the Merrivale Road on the Mount Edward granitic dome. The quarry is a few hundred metres south of Merrivale Road, bordered by extensive scrub to the south and west. A modern version of Stonehenge has been built from the material bordering the northern side of the road.

The rock was formerly known as Salmon Pink and Perth Nutmeg, all marketing terms. It is light brown, foliated, megacrystic biotite syenogranite, containing pinkish-brown megacrysts of K-feldspar 25-30 mms long.

Mined by Australasian Granite Ltd. An example can be seen in Melbourne, as the stone was used to clad the ANZ building.
