Relicts of eclogitic assemblages within a small layered mafic sequence exposed at Frissòn Lakes, Val Grande, southeastern end of the Argentera Massif.

The Frisson Lakes mafic sequence is a small body of about 0.5 km2, surrounded by migmatitic orthogneisses (‘‘biotite anatexites’’ of Malaroda et al., 1970), exposed as a tectonic window of the crystalline basement of the Gesso-Stura Terrain (GST) of the Argentera Massif within its Meso-Cenozoic sedimentary cover. It forms a lens-shaped body, about 200 m thick and 500 m long, and it was previously mapped and described as ‘‘garnet–pyroxene gneiss’’ (Malaroda et al., 1970).
