There are three pegmatites in this vicinity- a muscovite pegmatite two kilometres north-west of New Well along the south side of the dirt track; another report of a pegmatite 3.5 kilomnetres west north-west of New Well; and an unmined beryl pegmatite two kilometres south-east of New Well.

New Well is north-west of the Morrissey Hill, Nardoo and Cairns mining centres.

The muscovite pegmatite trends north-west, is vertically dipping, and is intruded into a garnet-biotite schist. Asymmetrically zoned with a border zone of muscovite-plagioclase-quartz, a wall zone of microcline-muscovite-quartz-plagioclase, an intermediate zone of microcline, and a quartz core. Cleavelandite-quartz-muscovite masses (containing also columbite-tantalite, monazite, microlite, xenotime)occur within the microcline zone. The microlite is a microscopic alteration of the columbite-tantalite.
