Name(s) in local language(s):
Gruvdalen (Skeppsdal), Österåker, Uppland , Sverige
Feldspar quarry worked on a granite pegmatite located between Norrtälje and Åkersberga. It has been called and referred to as Skeppsdal, which is the name of the road close to the mine, about 1,5km ( ~1 mile ) up in the forest from the road. [Ulf Jordung information july 2014].
The quarry is roughly 10 x 10 meters at surface level and about 10 meters deep. Pegmatite vein (3-4 m wide and 20-30 m long), crosscutting a foliated granite with large feldspar megacrysts. The pegmatite body consists of quartz in the central parts with a frame of mainly K-feldspar and plagioclase and smaller amounts of muscovite and biotite. The deposit has been used for the extraction of feldspar and quartz, but any production numbers has not been found. The old quarry is known to mineralogists as it also possible to find several rare pegmatite minerals, including yellow-green beryl, columbite, fergusonite, gadolinite, clinoziosite, schörl, fluorite and bertrandite has been found in the dumps.
Nowadays there is not so much left to be found unfortunately, most of it is already picked from the small dumps.
