About Samarskite Group
Formula:
A3+B3+C5+2O8
A = Yb, Y, REE (Ln), U, Th, Ca
B = Fe3+, Mn2+
C = Nb, Ta, Ti. Nb> Ta and Ti
B = Fe3+, Mn2+
C = Nb, Ta, Ti. Nb> Ta and Ti
Member of:
Samarskite group minerals are ordered A3+C5+O4 minerals. The difference between the species of the group lies in the occupancy of the A-site.
Important note: Britvin et al. (2019) show, that iron is an essential constituent of samarskite-(Y) - a feature most likely concerning other group members, and thus interpolated from samarskite-(Y) to the general formula of the group.
Yttrotantalite-(Y) is (also) a member of the samarskite group according to Ercit (2005).
