Zircon from
Ivigtut Mine, Ivigtut stock, Arsuk Fjord, Sermersooq, Greenland

Locality type:Mine
Classification
Species:Zircon
Formula:Zr(SiO4)
Comments:Abundant as small, greasy, brownish grains/crystals in host rock w. Quartz/mica/feldspar/Fluorite but also Cryolite, Thomsenolite, etc. The key is 'host rock' - the halogenides are just associates and this material tends to be undercollected as it does not produce attractive specimens. However, if you have a piece with Quartz/mica/feldspar there is a very good chance of finding inconspicuous Zircon. A 3 mm Zircon from Ivigtut is superb! (Clause Hedegaard 2008)

Confirmation
Validity:Believed Valid
